let there be light
In 2020, Matt Jacobi-Caprio embarked on a mission to strengthen his relationship with God and join a church community where he and his husband felt welcomed. This involved attending church every Sunday, volunteering, connecting with new people, participating in Men's Christian groups, worship nights, and holiday events. He approached this journey with an open heart.
During his early months attending church, Matt worked to break down the walls he had built—walls forged through years of hurt, especially since coming out. Like many who have felt wounded by religious organizations, he was guarded, expecting to be judged. Yet, instead of rejection, he found acceptance, which helped him experience a deeper connection with God and form new friendships.
Matt has come to understand that faith is deeply personal and no two experiences are the same. While he would love for more people to find the same peace and fulfillment he has, he also recognizes that spiritual growth cannot be forced. His goal is never to push faith onto others, but to share his story in the hope that it might inspire or comfort someone else seeking their own path.
For his birthday last year, Matt Jacobi-Caprio took a significant step in his faith by getting baptized.
For Matt, this step was not taken lightly. He had spent years putting in the work, sharing his faith journey publicly through his writing and social media. It was for this reason that he felt compelled to make his baptism a shared experience—an open invitation for everyone to witness. As a result, messages and connections poured in. Matt’s baptism became not only a celebration, but also one of the church’s most attended services.
It brought people together from all walks of life. Matt Jacobi-Caprio hopes to be an example to others and remind them that God’s love has no limits and that faith is meant to be embraced wholeheartedly and authentically.
