Before Barbie made it to the big screen, Nick & Matt Jacobi-Caprio decided to shake up the toy industry in the most amazing way possible. Their goal was to bring more inclusive opportunities to the toy section. So, the couple created a one of a kind Barbie Wedding Set. This love-filled toy ignited a global conversation like never before! The Jacobi-Caprio’s story spread from coast to coast, sparking smiles, and endless inspiration across the world.

the inspiration

In Dec. 2018, Matt & Nick wanted to give his niece, Natalie, something special for her 8th birthday. They wanted it to be meaningful as the couple had just recently asked Natalie and her younger sister to be flower girls in their upcoming wedding. Unfortunately, there were no toys that connected with them or reflected their wedding. So, Matt & Nick went to task and created their own “Barbie Wedding Set.” This took a couple purchases and creativity, but it turned out great! When Natalie unwrapped her gift, she immediately said, “They look exactly like you! I love it.” Her reaction inspired Matt to post a picture of their custom wedding set and a message to Mattel with the hopes to inspire them to make something where all weddings could be created by kids. After posting, Mattel got back to Matt and invited the couple to their headquarters. During that time, news of our wedding set creation went viral around the world. The support they received was powerful. A conversation was being had that was never had before. In Jan. 2019, Matt & Nick arrived at Mattel for their meeting. They met the talented Barbie team, where they showed them a presentation and had a very mindful conversation. During that meeting the team welcomed them into the #BarbieFamily, and the couple learned what they’d been up to regarding increasing inclusion and representation in the future. Matt & Nick stayed in touch month after month. Today, Matt & Nick are excited to share with you the latest Barbie #BarbieStyle Wedding Fashion Packets. This will give children the tools to imagine any kind of wedding they want. All couples can now be represented with their choice of wedding fashions along with the brand’s diverse doll line. For children all around the world, they now have the opportunity to put together, narrate, and play out a wedding day that is reflective of their own life experience. Matt & Nick Jacobi=Caprio have great trust in Barbie, and will continue to keep everyone posted on more! For now, they invite you to enjoy playtime with your little ones, while reminding you that love is love. #WeAreBarbie

a dream come true

historic

After an incredible journey of 11 years together, Matt & Nick officially tied the knot on May 25, 2019. Their hearts were filled with joy as they said their heartfelt "I do's" surrounded by 165 cherished guests who joined us on this momentous occasion.

Their wedding day was not just a celebration of love and commitment, but also a tribute to the brave LGBTQ freedom fighters and allies who paved the way for marriage equality to become the law of the land.

The venue, The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch, holds a special place in their hearts, as Matt & Nick were the first same-sex couple to exchange vows there. The couple entrusted the talented event experts at Juliet Le Fleur, Glamour & Woods, and Southwest Teepee to bring their creative magic to their wedding day.

Leland Gebhardt Photography captured the essence of their day so beautifully. His photos serve as memories that they will hold close to our hearts for a lifetime.

In a big step towards inclusivity and representation in Major League Baseball, the Arizona Diamondbacks invited Matt & Nick to be the Grand Marshals for one of their first-ever Pride Games. With open hearts and surrounded by their loving family, they proudly walked onto the field, symbolizing the ongoing progress of the movement towards representation in professional sports.

Matt & Nick felt deeply honored to be a part of this special game in their hometown of Phoenix. They recognized the significance of the moment and how far society had come since their own childhood days.

As the couple stood on the field, they represented hope and inspiration for countless individuals who had once felt excluded or overlooked. The Arizona Diamondbacks' initiative showcased the team's commitment to diversity and acceptance, making it a home run for all who believe in equality and inclusion.
